Royal Flush Solitaire

Deal


To form the tableau, deal the cards into 4 columns of 13. Make sure there's space for a 5th column, as well as space for 5 cards to form a play area.

Play


Cards rank (from low to high): A, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, J, Q, K

The objective is to make sets of 5 cards that form a poker hand by moving cards, one at a time, to the play area. Once you move a card to the play area, you cannot move it again. Once the play area has 5 cards, note down how much they score under the relevant category, and discard them.

Tip: If you prefer, you can instead move them to one side and calculate the score at the end of the game.

Cards can be stacked in descending order provided that the top card of the stack and the card you wish to place it on do not share the same suit. Stacks may be split if desired.

Example: You can place a 7♦ (a stack of one) on an 8♠, 8♥, or an 8♣, but cannot be placed on an 8♦. The same applies to a stack of 7♦, 6♣, 5♥.

You can also move any card stack to any empty space.

Once it's no longer possible to play 5 cards to the play area, the game is over, and your score is calculated.

Score


For each 'poker hand', evaluate its score and add it to your total. If you get 240 points or more, you win.

There are 10 categories to score, which correspond to each type of poker hand. Only the cards that contribute to the hand are counted. The total of their values is the hand's score. Jacks are 11, Queens are 12, Kings are 13, Aces are 14.

Only the highest scoring hand counts towards a category, and if a hand can be multiple categories, it's scored against whichever category is higher-valued.
